Let go of your physical stress with our yoga expert Jolene
A somatic informed yoga class to re-nourish you as parents
In this class we are leaning into the concept of letting go. This can mean whatever resonates for you. It could be letting go of judgement. Letting go of habits that no longer serve you. Letting go of pain. When we let go, we surrender and give space to self-compassion. And self-compassion is the road to recovery from burnout and exhaustion.
If you can, bring a...
- Yoga mat
- Optional: essential oil to aid with breathwork. This week I'm using lemon for its mental clarity and for inspiring direction.
- A yoga strap or belt of a dressing gown
- Two large pillows of similar sizes
- A blanket for wrapping around yourself during meditation
- Water bottle
- Comfy clothes you can easily move in, ideally in layers in case you get warm or cold
How to set up your space for maximum relaxation.
Having a space where you can feel immersed and be undisturbed is important when taking part in a one to one or group class. Ideally, children and excitable pets need to spend time with another adult. Although it’s actually lovely doing somatic yoga with a calm cat or dog, as this can support co-regulation.
You may like to set up your space like this, but adapt as you need:
- Soft lighting either from lamps or electric candles
- Gentle music in the background
- Essential oil diffuser or incense
- Just right room temperature with windows open on a warmer day
- Mat on a soft carpet or rug if that feels better for sitting
- A chair nearby if you find balancing difficult
- Easy access to your props and water bottle
